Palisades Charter High School teams to be presented with USBWA Most Courageous Awards
The boys and girls basketball teams at Palisades Charter High School in California, who completed winning seasons while coping with the trauma of the January wildfires that destroyed much of their campus and left several players without their homes, have been named the winners of the 2025 Perry Wallace Most Courageous Award and 2025 Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
USBWA mourns the passing of Perry Wallace Courage Award winner Justin Hardy
Washington University student-athlete Justin Hardy died of stomach cancer Sunday morning after a year in which he refused to allow a stage 4 diagnosis to get in the way of his goals. Hardy was one of two athletes given the Perry Wallace Most Courageous Award by the United States Basketball Writers Association for his refusal to let a terminal prognosis sidetrack his immediate plans.
JONES, HARDY TO RECEIVE PERRY WALLACE MOST COURAGEOUS AWARD
Two exemplary men's college basketball players will share the 2022 Perry Wallace Most Courageous Award. Texas guard Andrew Jones, who has displayed courage since his leukemia diagnosis in 2018, and Washington (Mo.) University forward Justin Hardy, who has been his team's second-leading scorer while battling stomach cancer, have both demonstrated extraordinary courage reflecting honor on amateur basketball.
