Florida State's Latson headlines USBWA's women's weekly honors
For the period through Sunday, Jan. 5, the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women’s honorees of the week are Kentucky guard Georgia Amoore; UCLA center Lauren Betts; Drake guard Katie Dinnebier; Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson; and Seton Hall forward Faith Masonius. The Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week is Texas guard Jordan Lee, and the National Team of the Week is Clemson.
Marquette's Karlen headlines Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week
While the bulk of teams in the Associated Press women’s poll are affiliated with the Power 5 conferences meaning a lot of movement will be occurring once league races get under way with the arrival of the 2024 portion of the season schedule, quiet as it is now due to finals and less games, it still was not difficult to find standout performances from which to select the five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week, the Tamika Catchings freshman award and the National Team of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 17. For their performances in the past seven days, this week’s five Ann Meyers Drysdale honorees are Seton Hall guard Azana Baines, Marshall guard Breanna Campbell, Mississippi State center Jessika Carter, UConn guard Aubrey Griffin, and Marquette forward Liza Karlen.
USBWA NAMES 2019-20 MEN'S ALL-AMERICA TEAM
A trio of seniors that includes a repeat selection and the Division I career field goal percentage leader – plus two others who are their schools' most decorated players – has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's 2019-20 All-America First Team. The team includes three players who are USBWA District Players of the Year and four of the five are player of the year honorees in their respective conferences.
USBWA UNVEILS OSCAR ROBERTSON TROPHY MIDSEASON WATCH LIST
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected 12 standout players for its 2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. Members of the association's board of directors chose the players that will be considered as contenders for the National Player of the Year.
