NCBWA names semifinalists for 2025 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear

The Dick Howser Trophy Committee, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, has revealed the semifinalists for the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear. This prestigious award in college baseball has been given to the top player based on two rounds of national voting by NCBWA members since 1987.

Colorado Mesa's Cartwright, Northwest Nazarene's Lugo-Canchola are NCBWA Division II Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards the week ending on May 11, 2025. Colorado Mesa junior outfielder Cameron Cartwright, is the National Hitter of the Week and Northwest Nazarene senior lefty Ernesto Lugo-Canchola is the National Pitcher of the Week. 

Tampa (43-7) tops NCBWA Division II Poll

The defending national champion Tampa Spartans remain the number one team in this week’s NCBWA top 25 poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon. Tampa received 17 of the 20 first-place votes, earning the top spot for the ninth straight week. The Spartans enter NCAA Tourney play at 43-7 overall.

Weber, Schark and Siary are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending May 11. Oregon State senior catcher Wilson Weber and Southern Illinois redshirt senior infielder Matt Schark were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Mississippi State junior right-handed pitcher Evan Siary was named National Pitcher of the Week.

LSU (40-12) tops NCBWA Division I Poll

2023 NCAA champion LSU has become the fifth school – all from the Southeastern Conference – to gain the No.1 ranking after Arkansas topped the survey on May 5. The Tigers downed the Razorbacks twice in three games last weekend while Texas retained the No. 2 post. Florida State moved up to a season-high No. 3 ahead of North Carolina and Arkansas.

Monistere, LaPour are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Month

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named its Dick Howser Trophy Players of the Month for March presented by The Game Headwear, tabbing Southern Miss second baseman Nick Monistere its national hitter of the month and TCU right-handed starting pitcher Tommy LaPour its national pitcher of the month.

NCBWA announces Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy 'Starting 9'

A nine-member finalist group has been announced for the inaugural Tony Gwynn Trophy, honoring NCAA baseball student-athletes who exemplify the Gwynn legacy. The Gwynn Trophy winner will be selected from this group of nine finalists, in a vote by NCBWA board members, select college baseball coaches and national media members.

Biller, Root and Dzierwa are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending May 5. Connecticut graduate student outfielder Sam Biller was named National Hitter of the Week, while Arkansas junior left-handed pitcher Zach Root and Michigan State junior left-handed pitcher Joseph Dzierwa were named National Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Arkansas (40-9) tops NCBWA Division I Poll

Texas, Clemson and Oregon State hold the top three positions against challenging opposition while LSU edged ahead of No. 5 Tennessee for the No. 4 position after winning two of three games from the Volunteers last week. No. 10 West Virginia saw its 14-game winning streak ended 3-2 at Penn State but then swept UCF to capture 17 of its last 18 contests. The Mountaineers also are tied with Texas and Arkansas for the most wins nationally in DI at 37-5.

Johnston, Misla and Meissner are NCBWA Division III National Players of the Week

Performances that saw a .727 on-base percentage, a program record 19 strikeouts and three homers to set a program single season record captured the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III honors for the week of April 21-27.

Washington senior outfielder AJ Guerrero was named National Hitter of the Week, while Belmont sophomore right-handed pitcher Zane Brown was named National Pitcher of the Week.

HBCU baseball visionary and Black college championships founder Michael Coker passes away

Michael Coker, founder and executive director of Black College Championships LLC and founder of the Black College World Series as well as lead contemporary reporter for the Black College Nines website, passed away Tuesday, April 22, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic and prostate cancer.

NCBWA unveils 2025 Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List

With the second half of the 2025 collegiate regular season now underway, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced Wednesday that 56 of the nation's top relief pitchers have been named to the Midseason Watch List for the 20th annual Stopper of the Year award. Relief pitchers not included on the midseason list remain eligible to be considered as finalists for the award.
