DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards the week ending on May 11, 2025. Colorado Mesa junior outfielder Cameron Cartwright, is the National Hitter of the Week and Northwest Nazarene senior lefty Ernesto Lugo-Canchola is the National Pitcher of the Week.
Cartwright (Parker, Colo. / Legend HS) was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament MVP after batting .630 with four doubles, five home runs, and 18 RBI in six games. In the first championship game, Cartright had a solo home run, a grand slam, an RBI double, an RBI single, and an RBI walk for an 8-RBI outing (11th-most in Division II this season) while going 4-for-5 at the plate. In the winner-take-all final, he opened the scoring with an RBI single and closed the scoring with another RBI single in an 18-5 victory. He had three consecutive three-hit games before his four-hit outing and bookended his tournament run with a pair of two-hit outings, giving him a multi-hit performance in every game of the tournament.
Lugo-Canchola (Pleasant Grove, Utah / Utah) was named the GNAC Tournament MVP after his stellar outing on the mound in the win Thursday night against Montana State Billings. The GNAC Newcomer of the Year was nearly untouchable, tossing a complete-game, nine-inning shutout with eight strikeouts. He allowed just two hits, both singles, and two walks in the 100-pitch effort. The lefty retired the first ten Yellowjackets before allowing a walk, which was quickly erased with a double play. MSUB recorded its first hit, a single, with one out in the fifth. After another single in the seventh, Lugo-Canchola retired the final eight batters in a row to finish the complete game.

Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
