DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 28th year with its 2025 weekly surveys.
North Carolina gained its first No. 1 ranking this year and becomes the first Atlantic Coast Conference member to top the survey. Previous No. 1 and 2023 NCAA champion LSU is No. 2 ahead of Nos. 3-5 Arkansas, Oregon State and Florida State. No. 1 NCAA Championship seed Vanderbilt dropped from No. 3 to 18 after being upset by Louisville and Wright State in the NCAA Nashville Regional while No. 2 NCAA seed Texas slipped to No. 17 after falling to UTSA in the NCAA Austin Regional.
Several big movers from Week 16 to Week 17 were Auburn No. 12 to 6, UCLA from No. 14 to 7, Tennessee from No. 16 to 9, West Virginia from No. 23 to 12 and previous vote recipients and NCAA Super Regional participants No. 10 UTSA, No. 11 Arizona, No. 13 Murray State, No. 14 Louisville, No. 15 Duke and No. 16 Miami (Fla.), among others.
All eight 2025 Super NCAA Regional hosts are among the Top 25 as well as the 16 teams competing in the Super Regionals. One big surprise in the ratings and NCAA pairings is Super Regional competitor (against Duke in Durham, N.C.) Murray State, which edged Ole Miss 12-11 in the Oxford Regional. The MSU Racers captured their first NCAA victories since the 1979 Regionals. Unsung Little Rock also took then-No. 1 nationally in polls LSU to an if-necessary outcome before falling 10-6 in Baton Rouge.
There have been 10 conferences and independents (nine this week) represented in the first 17 standings of 2025, and there were 12 different conferences appearing in the 2024 NCBWA polls. This also will be the final NCBWA Division I poll prior to the end of the conclusion of the 78th NCAA World Series in (Diamond Anniversary 75th in Omaha, Neb.) June 22 or 23.
The 2025 poll voters come from among 33 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. The ’25 season features 307 NCAA Division I baseball-playing schools, and for more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to ncbwa.com.
